The Mingus Mountain Repeater Group was founded in early 1974 by about 10 hams who believed a need for good communication existed between most of Phoenix and the north-central mountains of Arizona. Members donated gear, money, and lots of time. In 1988, a new building was added to the site on Mingus to house the radio equipment owned by MMRG. The old building now houses the battery system and chargers which operate the systems daily on the mountain. In 2010, the Vanity Club Call of K7MRG was obtained and put on the Mingus Mountain repeater which operates on 147.000 + 600 PL 162.2 and now signs as K7MRG/R. The downtown Phoenix repeater operates on 147.280 +600 PL162.2 and signs as WA7UID/R.

MMRG are held twice a year, an annual board meeting in Phoenix and a picnic meeting in Chino Valley. Dates, times, and locations are announced in the newsletter.
